Drawing III - Translation Project

Translation Project Assignment:

I. Make a minimum of five 3” x 5” drawings using ballpoint pen. Drawings should be non-objective with a focus on mark-making.

II. Choose one of the drawings and translate the image into three-dimensional space.
Consider the use of materials and placement of installation.

Objectives:

Focus on mark-making
Experimentation with the use and manipulation of non-traditional materials
Exploration of installation and drawing in three-dimensional space

Figure with Expressive Color Assignment:

Draw the figure while a color image is projected onto the body.

Objectives:

Demonstrate proficiency in proportion
Indicate volume and weight in the figure
Utilization of expressive color

Drawing III - Human Copy Machine

This interactive collaborative project is a copy of Gelitin's Tantamounter 24/7. For seven hours, the students made replicas of objects and images which were inserted into the Machine. Each copy was photographed with the original before it was returned to its owner. Complete documentation of the project can be viewed here.

Final Project

I. Write a proposal for a series of drawings which indicates your choice of scale, subject-matter, and media.

II. Execute the final series and aim to establish competency and consistency throughout the series.

Objectives:

Ability to develop and sustain an idea through several works
Demonstrate knowledge of composition, use of full value range, and mark making
Take ownership for content and direction of the project
